Brief info
Born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, I attended Eastern Michigan University and received a Bachelor Degree in Business. In 1980 I started my professional career in banking, working as a branch manager for 3 years. I then entered into the US Civil Service, working as a Supply Systems Analyst for the US Navy in Mechanicsburg, PA. What brought me to PA from Michigan was not just the job. I married Eileen Joyce from Harrisburg in 1981 and was married to her for 35 years. Eileen died of ovarian cancer in May of 2016. We had two children together, daughter Jen and son Jim. Jen is 37 years old and lives in Baldwinsville, NY. She is married to Matt Medwid and they have two children, daughter Avery, who is 12, and son Trey, who is 9. Our son Jim is 34 and is married to Ann Nee. They live in Brighton, Michigan.
After 7 years of civil service, I felt a calling to pastoral ministry while attending Colonial Park UM Church in Harrisburg under the mentoring of Pastor Ted Yohe. Ted served as pastor of Shippensburg Messiah UMC from 1967-73. We moved to Kentucky in 1989 and I attended Asbury Seminary there. In 1992 I received my first appointment to a UM parish in Bloomsburg. I then served churches in Altoona and eventually 16 years in York. Previously, I served in NY state at Liverpool UMC, Liverpool, NY.
My journey back to PA is because of marriage to a UM pastor, Layne Miller, who serves New Hope UMC church in Newburg. Layne lost her husband Gary to cancer in April, 2017. The Lord has wonderfully brought us together and we were married on May 24th, 2020 at Park Avenue UMC in Chambersburg.
I love to preach, teach and mentor folks into a deeper relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. I love to interact with people and help them on their journey of discipleship with Christ. I believe the Lord has great things for us!
